How do I cook my pies?

For best results, we recommend cooking your pies from frozen.

Just follow the 5 easy steps below for the perfect pie:

1. Pre-heat your oven to around 195c (gas mark 5)

2.  Remove pie(s) from the freezer and place on a baking tray before placing into the oven. Please note the pie should be cooked in the foil and not removed from it before cooking.

3. Cook for around 40-45 minutes until piping hot in the middle.

4. Remove the pies from the oven and leave to stand for around 6-7 minutes. This will help the pastry firm up and make the pie easier to remove from the foil.

5. Remove the pie from the outer foil and serve! If it sticks, try gently teasing the foil away from the top of the pie by making a small cut in the foil with scissors or a knife.

Cooking with an air fryer?

Follow the steps above but use a temperature of 190°C and adjust the time to 35 minutes. Air fryers cook the pies extremely well and give great results.

Are the pies delivered frozen?

All Yorkshire Handmade Pies are delivered frozen using temperature controlled packaging. They should be placed straight in the freezer upon receipt. We send your pies frozen but uncooked. This means when you cook it, it's the first time it has been baked. This gives the pies a much fresher taste and aroma as it is freshly baked by you.

DELIVERY

How will you deliver my pies?

We deliver your pies via DPD. They offer a reliable service and we feel we can trust them to deliver your pies. You will receive a notification when your pies are dispatched by email and you will then receive a text/email with a 1 hour delivery slot on the day of delivery.

How quickly will you deliver my pies?

We always aim to dispatch orders within 72 working hours of the point at which they are placed, where stock levels permit. You will receive an email confirming your order has been dispatched as soon as it leaves us.

All deliveries are made within 24 hours of dispatch. Whilst every effort is made to dispatch orders on time we cannot guarantee a set delivery date or time and are unable to guarantee set dates or times for the future.

Once your order has been placed please do check your order confirmation email to ensure your address and post code details are correct. We cannot accept responsibility for this data being incorrect.

Please note we are unable to amend delivery dates, or your product selection, once your order has been accepted.

We strongly recommend that you do not amend your delivery date directly with DPD. Your pies are packaged to ensure they arrive with you in a safe and consumable state within the 24-hour time frame we have agreed with DPD.

Delays to your delivery increases the likelihood that the pies will defrost, rendering them unsafe for consumption. To avoid this, DPD are mandated to destroy any pies that cannot be delivered the day after dispatch, so we are unable to replace or refund any orders which arrive defrosted or damaged, where you have changed your delivery date directly with the courier.

There will only be one delivery attempt made by DPD. If you are unable to receive the it directly, the two alternate options available to you are "Deliver To A Neighbour" and "Leave In A Safe Place." DPD will automatically leave your parcel in what they deem to be the most appropriate safe place (in accordance with the delivery protocol we have established with them), so please use the latter option to add more specific details to help guide the driver (e.g. garden shed / front porch).

You can amend your delivery preferences directly with DPD via the DPD App.

How much does delivery cost?

The delivery cost is a flat £5.95 and this will be added to your bill at checkout. This does not include Gift Card Purchases. Order values of £45 and over will be delivered free of charge. Please note that the value of the order needs to be £45 or more after any discount codes have been applied for the Free Delivery to be applied.

Is there anywhere that you can't deliver within the UK?

All of our products are delivered using temperature controlled packing and therefore we aim to supply all our customers within 1 - 2 days of dispatch.

Unfortunately, our couriers are currently unable to deliver to some locations within this time frame. At this time this includes Northern Ireland. We are also currently unable to deliver to the following postcodes due to these areas being on 2 + day delivery with our courier.

DD8, DD9, FK16, ZE, HS, PA, KW, IV, AB, PH

Our intention is to reach as many customers as we can throughout the UK, and as the delivery constraints that we currently face are removed (a process that we are actively engaged with our delivery partners in resolving), we are aiming to try to reach all postcodes within the UK within the 2 day time frame from dispatch of your pies, at a reasonable cost, for you, the customer.  We want everyone to experience the joy that is Yorkshire Handmade Pies and we will continue working to try to make this happen.

Going away or on holiday?

If you are likely to be away, or on holiday, around 2 - 3 working days after placing your order we would recommend holding off placing your order until you come back and can take receipt of your parcels safely. We deliver all of our orders in temperature controlled packaging to ensure that your pies are delivered in the best possible condition and any delay or disruption could affect the quality of the product that you receive.

DPD and What3Words

DPD has recently announced a partnership with What3Words to enable deliveries to precise locations specified by customers.

From February 25 2022 parcel customers will be able to add their What3Words address in the delivery preferences section of the DPD app. From there, drivers will be made aware of exact locations to deliver parcels.

You can specify exact business location, entrance, or hard to find location.

If you are interested in this facility please download the DPD app.

You can find your What3Words by either downloading the W3W app or visiting their website – what3words.com.

We aim for Zero Food waste.

Frozen food generates 47% less wastage than chilled or ambient food. We produce our pies fresh daily and they are then professionally blast frozen in batches. This preserves the integrity of the product and also means we can be very efficient with our production which means we operate with virtually zero food waste, which is far better for the environment. Add in the fact that professionally frozen food is proven to be superior in terms of nutritional content as well as the fact it locks in the incredible flavours we put into our pies and it's a no brainer!

PIE SIZE AND PACKAGING

What size and weight are the pies and how much space do I need in the freezer?

The pies are 250g each (a substantial meal for one) and the outer box is 315mm x 220mm x 50mm which fits inside most freezer drawers. You can remove the pies from the outer box which will save a little space in your freezer.

How are my pies packaged?

Your pies are sent in cardboard recyclable packaging. They will arrive frozen and will need putting straight in the freezer (unless you can't wait and put them straight in the oven!). Some level of slight defrost may occur on the outside of the pastry but this is normal and your pies won't be affected.

How long can I keep my pies in the freezer?

Your pies will have a use by date displayed on the outer box label but for best results we recommend using them within 3 months of receiving them. But they rarely last that long!

 MIXED CASES

Can I pick and mix my own choice of pies?

This is something we are regularly asked and whilst we would love to offer this, we produce in batches and freeze down in bulk which means we operate with virtually zero waste. This method also really protects product quality and nutritional content. It also means we dispatch 80% of our orders on the same day as ordering, meaning you will receive your pies quickly, something we couldn't do if we offered a pick and mix option. We do offer a range of set mixed boxes which give you a range of pies in the same box if you prefer not to buy the individual flavours.

ABOUT YOUR PIES

Your pies are handmade in our bakery nestled between the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors. Our team are passionate about giving you an unforgettable pie eating experience. We believe Yorkshire has some of the finest food producers in the country and we're delighted to be able to offer you pies made with incredible fresh ingredients, many of which are sourced within a few miles of us.

All Yorkshire Handmade Pies are provided as fresh bake-off pies. This means that the first time you bake your pie in the oven it will be the first time it has ever been baked. This gives you the unbelievable flavour and light crisp pastry that makes your pie taste the way a real pie should.

 HOW WE MAKE YOUR PIES

Where do you source your beef from at Yorkshire Handmade Pies?

This is a question we are regularly asked. We are incredibly fortunate to be based in an area famed for beef production and we have some of the best beef farms in the UK right on our doorstep. We buy all the beef that goes into our pies from a butcher based just 2 miles away. They buy from local farms and buy only the best animals direct from the farmers. We are highly diligent with the sourcing of all our meat and beef is a key product for us. When you buy our beef pies, you are guaranteed the beef meets all the following criteria.

  • It is 100% Free range
  • It is sourced almost exclusively within Yorkshire and mainly from farms within 30 miles.
  • It comes from Heritage and Rare breeds including Hereford, Belted Galloway, Angus and many more. These breeds are a traditional part of British farming Heritage and provide incredible quality meat. These types of cattle are a world away from the mass-produced beef commonly sold in supermarkets.
  • All the beef we use is raised on pastures, never in feed lots or sheds. This provides the animals with a natural environment and is a key part of keeping the landscape healthy and populated with wild flowers and other plants that contribute to soil health, an important natural carbon capture system.
  • You really are buying from ‘Field to Fork’ with a very short supply chain that has full traceability throughout.
  • The money you are spending is supporting British farmers passionate about their animals and the quality of the meat they produce.

What are the benefits of using local ingredients and suppliers?

Using local ingredients means reduced food miles and many of our ingredients are sourced within 5 miles of our factory. Some within 100 metres! In addition when you buy our pies you are supporting many other British businesses who really care about what they do. By buying direct from us, food is not travelling through a complex supply chain to reach you which means less travelling, less storage and ultimately is much better for the environment.
